Edinburgh 18/08/2007. International Book Festival. Janice Galloway was born in 1956 in Saltcoats, Scotland and read Music and English at Glasgow University. She took a year out and worked briefly as a Welfare Rights Officer for Strathclyde Regional Council (1976-7) before returning to Glasgow to complete her degree. Between 1980 and 1989 she worked as an English teacher, afterwards attending a writers' class at Glasgow University.
